“Music washes away from the soul, the dust of everyday life” – Berthold Auerbach

Music is a universal language which everyone can participate in and enjoy and during their time at Christ Church the children are all encouraged to explore music through a variety of avenues.

During weekly lessons they learn to sing and to play tuned and untuned instruments with increasing accuracy, control and expression, to improvise and compose music, to use and understand notation and to perform, both solo and as part of an ensemble. They listen to both recorded and live music from a wide range of genres and find out about the history of music.

There are opportunities to learn to play a variety of instruments with our peripatetic staff as well as participation in our annual Nativity (FS/KS1) and Christmas show (KS2). There is also an annual musical for which children in KS2 can audition. Children are encouraged to and regularly perform in assemblies and to the community through our programme of Christmas visits to local residential homes, summer concert and “Music in the Field”.
