Art & DT
Intent
Art, Craft and Design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity and we aim to ensure that our children receive a high quality art and design education that will engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, crafts and design. We aim for our children to think critically and develop a rigorous understanding of both art and design and a respect for how they shape and reflect our history and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our world.Implementation
At Christ Church Primary School we provide students with the opportunity to explore their creativity in art lessons through a wide variety of mediums. Students are encouraged to persevere, take ownership of their artwork and create truly unique pieces of art.
We believe that the process of art work is more important than the end product. Children should have the opportunity to use art as a means of expressing their feelings towards the world and for translating how they see things within the environment using interesting and varied techniques and from a variety of starting points. The children are also given opportunities to lead their own artwork, make decisions about their art, be imaginative, consider improvements as well as actually being given the opportunity to improve a piece of art.
It is vital to show the children that their work is valued and this is done by providing an audience and purpose for work, displaying around the school as well as in the classroom.
Art is celebrated throughout the school year and receives particular attention during Arts Week when the school sets out a gallery and invites parents and the local community to visit and enjoy the art work. Service.
Impact
Our children produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences. They become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques. They can evaluate and analyse their work. They know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
